Water Flow Rate Measurement
Cooling Tower Test Associates, Inc. (CTTA) provides fluid flow rate measurement services for routine status tests, internal R&D projects, and for auditing purposes. CTTA’s professional staff are pleased to offer our decades of experience as licensed third-party test engineers to the purchasers of our tests.
All tests are conducted in accordance with applicable ASME, CTI, or other recognized test codes or regulations. All instrumentation equals or exceeds code requirements.

Water Flow Rate Measurement
Direct water flow rate measurement techniques are still used after centuries because it is reliable, highly accurate, and produces verifiable results. At CTTA, we even developed a significantly improved design for the instruments used across the industry. Known as Pitot tubes, you can request a quote for your own CTTA-built tube here.
Pitot tubes measure water displacement, which is used to calculate flow velocities across the diameter of a pipe. We take two 20-point measurements perpendicular to each other to determine the average flow rate within the pipe.
Using a Pitot tube, we can accurately measure flow rates in pipes ranging from 4 inches up to 15 feet in diameter.
Direct measurements using a Pitot tube require two ports located at least six diameters past a flow obstruction or bend. Please contact us for guidance concerning the installation of any ports.
